Meet Joe

Joe Stankaitis, MD, MPH, founded JAS Medical Management Solutions Consulting after over 35 years of in-depth experience in the world of managed care, with a strong focus on governmental programs.

Through his knowledge, expertise, and leadership as a Chief Medical Officer, organizations have achieved impactful results in disease/care management programs (e.g., significant decreases in NICU admission rates, improved asthma and diabetes outcomes, outstanding performance for HEDIS® metrics), outstanding scores for NCQA accreditation/distinction programs, meaningful quality improvement/management programs, and significant financial gains from a variety of Value-Based Payments arrangements.

Joe received his B.S. in Biology from Boston College, his MD from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, MPH in Health Policy and Management as a Kellogg Fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health and completed his Residency and Chief Residency training in the Primary Care Program in Internal Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is Board-certified in Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Joe is the longest serving physician surveyor for NCQA being involved since its inception as a surveyor and serving as Chair of its Reconsideration Committee (two separate terms) and Chair of the Review Oversight Committee. 

He currently holds a faculty position as Executive-in-Residence and Lecturer in Cornell University’s Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy’s Sloan Graduate Program in Health Administration.

He is currently a Board member for Rochester Hearing and Speech Center, the leading provider of Audiology Services for individuals of all ages and Early Intervention and Preschool Services from birth to age five in the Rochester, New York region.

He is a past Board Chair, Board member, and Quality Committee Chair for St. Ann’s Community, one of New York State’s leading senior housing and health services providers with a 150+ years tradition of quality care for older adults.

Clinically he has served as a member of the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA’s) National Professional Practice Committee, the ADA’s national Health Disparities Committee and as President of the Volunteer Board of the Upstate NY ADA. 

He additionally has participated on numerous New York State Department of Health Committees and Work groups focusing on healthcare delivery.

Joe resides in Rochester, NY with his wonderful wife, Vickie. When he is not working, he enjoys cheering on his five daughters in athletic events such as marathons and Half Iron Man competitions, or home-brewing his own batch of beer. He loves keeping physically active by downhill and cross-country skiing, strength training, and even running in 5K races.
